Poker - night two; the sequal

firstly, fun was had by all. [again]
dani 'queen of tarts' joined 'poker in the rear', 'dumbluck dj', 'dark' and myself (mr.pink). [the raging swan could not attend coz she was unwell]
i was feelin chipper sporting my pink polo shirt.
The game ran for 3.5 hours before dani and i had to go; it was getting late and stupid daylight saving meant that i would be gettin up earlier...zzz
Last week i played quite conservatively... only betting to see the flop with atleast an ace or a pair- [uh-oh, the crap cat is outa the bag now]
This week i stayed in for most of the hands until i saw the flop. This was fine earlier on since the blinds started at $1 and $2, even though we had five not six playas, but went up rather quickly. And i won a few nice hands; a straight at the beginning of the game to start things off and a full house around the middle meant that i had a bit more leeway to stay in. The rest were pretty much two pair.
The most surprising playa of the night was the Queen. She came second with a lot of good hands, at least one straight, a few full houses and a lot of two pairs. And this was her first game with us.
The final results were once again;
1st- Joel; 'poker in the rear'
2nd- The Queen of tarts
3rd- Dark (who scrapped in with the flu)
4th- myself 'Mr.Pink' aka 'the chef'. (i went all in to secure getting third place but lost the hand to the Queen which left me here)
5th- Dumbluck DJ (Though he had some good hands, he went all in on something small and died kicking and screaming... and changing the playlist)

Next week is promising:
a bye in soccer (3 draws, 3 losses, 0 wins) means we'll start earlier.
Plus the return of the Raging swan, and a newcomer; Vincent 'the dealer' [name pending] who's resume includes working at a casino for seven years. And we hope that he'll knock 'poker in the rear' off his lofty perch.
We've also changed a few house rules; more shuffling and higher starting blinds.

Until next time, may your poker be texas-holdem and your sleeves full of Aces

Poker - night one; the aftermath

Fun was had by all, although my bravado (see previous post) got the better of me.
The game was Texas Hold-em, blinds started at $1 and $2 chips, aces were high and low.
I did bet rather conservativly, which really didn't help. I blame the six different decks of cards 'Mr.Dark' insisted we use. That and my best all night hand was two pair, jack high.
Here's how it went down;
Ricky aka 'Mr.White' bowed out within the first hour.
I, Mr.Pink gradually fell of my chair from lack of chips. I went all in and lost to a flush.
next came Janine the 'Raging Swan'. After she folded Dumbluck DJ, so called coz he wins via dumb luck and started out not knowing how to play, threw in three pair... ahem, and went to change the music.
It came down to a battle of wills between 'Mr.Dark' and 'Poker-in-the-rear'
'Poker's' history of texas holdem takes into account a few years of online casinos, something i was unaware of. While Mr.Dark's history included paperclips, lunchtimes and, only recently, the WSOP xbox game.
Blinds were at $50 and $100, with 'Poker' and obvious leader by a couple of thousand...
Unfortunately i blinked, Mr.Dark went all in and 'Poker-in-the-rear' won it.
[note too self, get more info on winning hands]

next match is sunday week where i hope to c0me better than 5th.

texas holdem

we've recently purchased a poker... kit... i guess its called a kit. includes $5000 worth of chips, a heavy duty case with locks to keep them in, 6 decks of cards (?!), various counters/tokens, shuffler, dealer... the works.
Thursday night is the first big game. I'm gunning for the Reservoir Dogs thing and giving us all character names like Mr.Pink and Mr.White since we always choose the same coloured cars in mashed (the most underrated game).
Game of choice is Texas Hold-em and i've been brushing up on the rules; the flop, the turn, the river, blinds, etc. I'll let you know how my domination of the felt goes.
Dan, dark, joel... and whoever else turns up; you're going down, you are all my cheese eatin surrender monkeys!

Live Music

Can't go wrong with live music; Friday night at the Manning Bar went OFF.
We went to the launch of The Lyrical Madmen's newest album, stare into space. The mosh pit was crankin, the band pumping and the screamin fans... screamin. The madmen play a mix of regge, rock and ska- great pub music were we can all get drunk and bust out on the dance floor.
Next gig is at the CSU Villiage Fair Musical Festival.
Favourite song right now- Fall of babylon.

In other news, have i mentioned how much i love wikipedia? Well, they're latest installment has come up groin-grabbingly-transcendant. Somone has put all the simpson-coined words into one giant list, with definitions no less... no longer will i struggle to remember the medical term when your bones try to leap out of your body...
