Poker - night six; dark: return of the nerd

1st- dark
2nd- queen of tarts
3rd- poker in the rear
4th- Mr.Pink
5th- Dumbluck DJ

In honour of this momentus occasion the night will go backwards;
dark wins beating the queen of tarts with nice full house... it would've been poetic if they were clubs and spades over anything red, but this aint the movies.
Joel goes all in paying the blind, I preceded him a good hour earlier. It felt like a cop out since i had a hand full of nothing when i went all in on the blind. Before that i had made a come-back winning a few good hands. I only called Daniel's bluff once... which turned out not to be a bluff and lost three hundred. This didnt help him, though he played alot more conservativly he left the table first.
We tried to start earlier, ordering pizza and starting before it arrived. I felt so dirty though... bbq next week.

Firstly we had a good win in soccer. Dark scored twice, doubling his season record. and we managed to piss-off the guys on the other team. They really should learn that since we are the underdogs we are going to win- (montage last saturday) just like in the movies.

before we start the post, this is a general warning. The following picture is best not viewed at all. [photo commentary by Dan.]

Poker - night five: a pair of dethrones

sundays go thusly;
6 or 6:30 is out indoor soccer start time, then back to dan and dark's place for bbq and poker. A night full of fun and frivolity.
Sunday a week ago we had our first win of the season. Last night hopes were cautiously high since we were up against the team coming first and undefeated. Our first dethrone came when the final buzzer sounded and the match was a draw, 2 goals each. They were understandably pissed since they couldn't beat a team that was coming close to the bottom. I know a draw isnt a win, but its a point better than a loss and we've had more draws than losses... so were doing better than three (or four since our win two weeks ago) teams in the nine team comp. So thats dethronage one.

can you see the foreshadowing?
Five playas; Dani 'the queen of tarts', Dan 'dumbluck DJ' (who had the 'poker playlist' saved and ready to roll), dark 'Dark', Joel 'poker-in-the-rear' and myself; steve 'Mr.Pink'.
Dan's erratic ante for the flop was quite restrained this week, and we were a little dumbfounded by this. Maybe that was the reason that he was the first to go. The queen of tarts went down to a full house (malevolently revealed by dark), who went all in two or three times before being overwhelmed by the size of my chips... So it came down to Joel and I, like last week. But this time I had the superior chip amount. The blinds were at $200 and $400 and for a little while a few chip stacks kept going back and forth.
... can't think of a climactic way of putting it; too tired and i can't remember what happened but joel's last few chips went in for the blind and i won with two pair... i'm guessing here so don't quote me on that.
Either way Joel's reign has come to an end... though i smell a revenge game.

And finally we have a picture of me on my blog. night all

Poker - night four: a new hope

on the back of my win at the first work texas holdem tourney i was a little more confident going into sunday's game. Even so, i still made a few very bad plays...
The raging swan wasn't able to come, but we had Vincent 'poker stud' bringing us back up to six punters. He was the first to leave coz it was getting late, and in a bid to absorb his winnings i met him at the flop and he went all in... and won with a flush, costing me three hundred.

Cant remember much more, except that Dan's erratic bid to see the flop (usually hundres at a time) caused many hands to fold and on one hand he sucked out alot from Joel and myself to see the flop, the turn and river only to show a hand full of crap. Joel won it quite happily. (grr must remember not to call dan to see the flop)
The other thing worth mentioning is the straight flush Joel revealed, the highest hand seen so far.

The final hand came down to joel and myself. (It had gone back and forth paying blinds for a few hands until one of us would call to see the flop... I should've waited until i had atleast a pair, or an ace with a face kicker.) I was dealt an ace and a low card, and payed through the nose to see the rest of the cards. Joel raised so i would have to go all in to see the river. He won it with a two pair... i on the other hand didn't have anything. My ace did squat.

So, the final rank was
1st Poker-in-the-rear (for the forth time)
2nd Mr.Pink (Yay)
3rd Dark
4th Dumbluck DJ
5th the Queen of tarts
6th poker stud

as for awards, its a toss up between dan and dark for the little pussycat 'hang in there' award. And dan also gets the 'help joel to win by bidding hundreds to see the flop' award'

Poker - night three: the sunday after

i apologise for the late post

Sunday arvo saw six sitting around a table trying to make heads a tales of the large pile of chips in front of Poker-in-the-rear... again. But i'm getting ahead of myself.

Firstly, i cooked to much food again- So we were stuffed.
Secondly, It was the triumphant return of the Raging Swan
Thirdly, our aim was to make sure Poker-in-the-rear didn't win

All was travelling smoothly, Dark was rotating four decks of cards and our conversation was punctuated with the lawnmower engine of the automatic shuffler.
Early on i folded on two small suited cards before the flop. It turned into a straight after the river and i would've had a sure winner... that was my best hand all night and it was all down hill from there; i dropped a good four hundred on the table calling Dumbluck DJ's bluff... which wasn't a bluff and suddenly i had no black chips left. A dozen or so hands later any my meagre pile of chips had become even more humble. I successfully bluffed a win by betting high early, and tried it again going all in on the next hand. My attempt died in the arse and i was out for the night... 6th... fan-friggin-tastic. [Atleast i was now able to take notes for the night]
The queen of tarts, after her impressive second place on debut last week, didn't do quite so well and followed me quickly.

A few noted hands from here on;
> two kings and two aces after the river so we're all expecting a fullhouse... after the cards were revealed Dark won with a nine; no full house, nothing higher than a nine. go figure.
> After the river the five table cards were a jumble and, Dumbluck DJ won with a pair of 2s extracting 600 from joel. I guess someone was hoping for a straight or flush.
> The next hand sees Dumbluck bluff Poker-in-the-rear for another 400- Poker folded after the turn when Dumbluck started raising 200 at a time.
As mentioned before five of us were attempting to stop joel from making a hatrick of wins and at one point joel [poker-in-the-rear] was coming third to janine [the swan] and dan [dumbluck dj].
> Joel goes all in with a chip value of 630 and wins with three queens, leaving Dark with little more than a few hundred. Not much considering the other three had around 1200 each.
> More than once dan opened with a hundred dollar chip resulting in folds all round. Infact it became a regular friggin occurance.
> As promising as the Raging Swan was her fall from glory happend thusly; both janine and dan went all in, dan won with two pair, jacks and aces leaving her with 4th place.
> Darks last hand; He goes all in paying the blind. Joel folds, dan calls and the river reveals the final 2 of a three-of-a-kind. dark shows jack high, dan shows a queen. dark leaves muttering something about kitten steaks calming the nerves.
> The next, and last hand; joel bets enough to get daniel all in and wins with sixes over fives full house, beating daniels straight.

Awards time:
Dan's aggresiveness earned him the "most aggressive" and "most likely to play on an unsuited 2" award. Dark gets the "little poster kitten" award for hanging in there with nothing more than $5 chips. Joel recieves the "claw back from the edge of oblivion" and the "winner" trophy. And he also gets the "hatrick weiner" award
